Valentines Day is only a few days away, and what better way to celebrate than with festive heart-shaped cookies. Although I am not the best baker, I still LOVE the look of decorated desserts. So here is a little life hack... decorate store-bought cookies instead. This takes so much time out of the fancy Valentine's Day cookie process.
We started this process by creating a nice V-Day-inspired space. This is optional, of course, but highly encouraged! Now, on to the cookie decorating tips!
.
First, start with a plain sugar cookie base. A heart-shaped cutout is a great choice for Valentine’s Day, but circles work just as well.
.
Flooding sugar cookies with royal icing is the traditional way to decorate them, but we didn't have that, so we used buttercream icing. To make heart cookies a little more fun, try frosting them with shades of pink and red to make festive color combinations. We used food coloring mixed with white icing. After you spread your icing amongst the cookie, it's time to add the details.
.
How’s your cursive? If you want to use writing to express your love, a decorating bag filled with icing is even better – and far more edible – than a pen or pencil! We recommend using a small round tip for more precise lettering (be sure to practice a few times before moving on to the real thing).
.
Is lettering not for you? Then sprinkles will impress that special someone just as well! The decorating possibilities are endless!
.
Let us know in the comments below how you will decorate your cookies this Valentine's Day holiday!
XOXO!
